LET IT SNOW!

These were the snowy scenes from inside the house yesterday morning........the first snow!  Much excitement in the house (well....me!)  especially as we had just put up our Christmas trees the night before and it was adding a beautiful wintry backdrop to the interior scheme.  Sadly it stopped as quickly as it started, and an hour later there was no sign that it had ever been.  Oh well.......early days.  I shall leave you with a few interior photos.  Hope your Christmas decorating is going well?

IT WAS A GREAT WEEKEND!

Monday morning, and back down to earth with a bump!  Mondays for me, as for most, are always a catching up day after the weekend.  The joys of working from home are that I can make work calls and send emails in between cleaning the house and putting another load of washing on.......a bit 'here and there' but it usually comes together by the end of the day.  Good to start the week organised!

It was a particularly lovely weekend, as it was my birthday on Saturday.  My special request to the family for my day was to all be together and to go somewhere inspiring.  Now to all get together is getting increasingly tricky these days, especially with daughter Georgie off to the Alps next week, but at least both my boys are living in London which is an easy trip from Kent.  My 'inspiring' place of choice for our day was Borough Market, Southwark in central London.  For those of you who have never had the opportunity to visit this bustling, foodie heaven - it is an absolute must.  Built in 1851 by Henry Rose in Art Deco style, it is now one of the largest outdoor food markets in the World.  Selling a vast variety of fruit and vegetables and speciality food products.  Although open all week, it is Friday and especially Saturday that draws the best variety of stallholders and of course the crowds, so brace yourself!  Although crowded, the atmosphere is always calm and very friendly, and a wonderful opportunity to meet artisan food producers from not only around the UK but from around Europe.  Beautiful displays of speciality breads, stunning array of cheeses, olives, charcuterie and cakes, nuts, wild mushrooms and truffles, alongside my favourite - spectacular displays of the freshest most beautiful vegetables.  With many stalls cooking tempting things,  there were delicious opportunities to eat 'on the hoof' everywhere  - ranging from fabulous paellas, casseroles and our popular choice of the most delicious reindeer burgers with a glass of mulled wine to get us all in the advent spirit. So inspirational, it made you want to take all these wonderful fresh ingredients home.  Quite a few delicious goodies made their way home with us that night, for a gorgeous birthday 'tapas style' feast by the fire.........

If you love foodie treats, visual treats, and inspirational treats, then do visit this wonderful historic market.  I shall leave you with a few of my favourite photos of Saturday's displays..........

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT......

FIRST CANDLE OF ADVENT.......

Today the first Sunday of advent's candle has been lit.  I adore December and can never wait to get started on decorating the house and preparing for Christmas.  Although we shall be away this year for Christmas itself, skiing with 'little chef' in the French Alps, along with our boys - I still plan to decorate and have not one but two large Christmas trees in the house this year!

Maybe it is because I am a December baby?  Maybe it is the 'Swenglish' blood in me?  But I love winter and fortunately have never suffered from  the 'SAD' syndrome that so many poor people get in these greyer months - instead I positively thrive!  The Danes have a wonderful expression called 'Hygge' which does not have a direct translation but is their word for 'cosiness'....it is about being by the fire with candles lit and great comfort food.  Here's wishing you all a 'Hygge' December.....!
