 HOME SWEET HOME…

PHOTOS:SOPHIA HOME

However fantastic a trip away has been, there is no better feeling than arriving home.
To walk in through the door, to be greeted by dogs overjoyed to see you….to feel and smell the familiar comforting atmosphere of your own environment….potter around the garden to see Spring's progress in just a week….and best of all, to sink in to one's own bed….a happy feeling!

Of course, I haven't mentioned the inevitable mountains of washing and ironing….post to go through and emails to reply to!

A busy day catching up today…and back in to inspiring new work design projects this week.

The Italian Alps were very special…and I look forward to sharing with you soon, a little about the wonderful place where we stayed, the people, and one or two recipes for the delicious food we enjoyed.

Wishing you a very happy week!

Keep calm….my mantra for today.
Last day before heading for the slopes!

Isn't there always so much to be done before going away? Am I the only one who finds the whole process a touch stressful?!

Getting up to date on work projects so I can try to switch off for the week, along with all the packing.  Fortunately leaving the house, greenhouse and dogs (they are not happy and are most definitely psychic and have sensed something way before I even got the suitcases out!) in the very capable hands of our wonderful house sitter Anna, an absolute 'gem' who loves animals and plants….what more could I wish for…..actually, I'm feeling calmer already!

With our children now living away from home, what a treat to spend an entire week together 'en famille'.  Staying in a remote former 'Rascard' (Italian hunting lodge), now a gorgeous small hotel above the main village on the edge of the piste….only accessible via skis or skidoos! It promises to be an adventure.

Precious time to catch up with each others' lives,  enjoy the fresh beautiful mountain air, some great skiing and delicious Italian food and wine….and of course, the inevitable family banter!  They're a competitive lot my three…actually make that four (my husband is the worse!) and I shall certainly not be competing with their dare devil break neck speeds down the mountain….preferring a speedy but safe pace...I need to get back in one piece!

So have a lovely week, whatever you have planned, and I shall hopefully look forward to sharing some stunning mountain scenery with you all on my return.  There may be a quick blog mid week, internet permitting…..

Thank you for reading, and for all your kind comments and emails recently!

SUNNY, HAPPY DAYS!

ALL PICTURES: SOPHIA HOME

Tuesday already, and although a little windy and cloudy today, I can still feel the benefits of the glorious weekend that just passed….

Brilliant blue sky and warm sunshine, found my husband and I super busy in the garden with the first mow of the season, and the ongoing task of weeding and preparing all the beds.  The greenhouse is in full swing now, with Dahlias on the go and the first seeds that are happy unheated but under glass, sown and under way….

Our beautiful Oak in the paddock is yet to bud, but  is surrounded with the ring of Daffodils that we planted while building the house six years ago….

An owl box….installed many years ago by the previous owner here….waiting to see if anyone will move in this year?  Last year, we were finally blessed for the first time, with a resident 'Little Owl', a small species of owl that unlike others, is actually awake during the day…..let's hope he returns?

The pond very full from the winter's relentless rain….a project that we are planning for the future, with ideas for some beautiful water's edge planting, and maybe a deck area and summer house to one end?

One of many of our plans….we do love a project!

I do hope you too have been enjoying the early Spring weather….and any projects that you have started or have planned?

Wishing you a happy and inspiring week!

 FOR YOUR LONDON ADDRESS BOOK…..
A 'SCANDI' LUNCH!

If you ever find yourself in London's West End around the Oxford Street area, and you have a craving for something delicious and Scandinavian for lunch, then head to
'The Scandinavian Kitchen' in
Great Titchfield Street…..

This was where I found myself yesterday lunchtime, sharing a delicious array of salads and open sandwiches with my youngest son and daughter whom I met up with, while on a trip up to town.  Prawns, salmon, beetroot and Swedish meatballs….just some of our favourite ingredients that we also enjoy here at home for seasonal family smorgasbord celebrations.

A fun and informal cafe and delicatessen, with a shop full of Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish goodies to stock up on…..a must if Scandinavian food is your thing.
They even have Abba music playing in the background!

SPRING…..IT'S OFFICIAL!

ALL PHOTOS: SOPHIA HOME

Happy Monday, and I do hope you had a wonderful weekend?
For us here in the UK, Spring arrived in all its glory with blue skies and warm sunshine…..

The cherry blossom bloomed over night, bringing its pink prettiness in to the garden….

….. it certainly got us out in to the garden, and after two days of weeding, clearing, cleaning the greenhouse and some first seed sowing, I feel excited and enthused about the growing season ahead, and new creative landscaping projects.

I am pleased to say that it wasn't all hard work over the weekend…..our eldest son and his girlfriend were down from London for a couple of days and much chat and a bottle or two of Rosé were enjoyed sitting outside in the early Spring sunshine…..a perfect weekend!

Wishing you a happy and sunny week ahead!

CELEBRATING SHROVE TUESDAY….

Shrove Tuesday…..the last day before the commencement of Lent tomorrow…..and that means Pancakes!

Sadly the days of making pancakes with the children when they were small are now gone….happy memories of tossing pancakes around the kitchen….some results better than others, I seem to remember!

Luckily a pancake lover never grows too old for this….and I shall certainly be making them for the two of us at home tonight.  There are various wonderful looking savoury and sweet recipe versions in magazines and on the internet at the moment, but for me there is nothing nicer than a simple, classic pancake with a little lemon and sugar…..delicious!

For the perfect, reliable basic pancake recipe…..it of course has to be to 'Delia' that I turn, and you can find that here.

Happy Shrove Tuesday and happy
pancake making!

A RESTFUL RETREAT…

VIA:PINTEREST

Good morning!
I apologise to my regular readers that I have not managed to post recently as often as I would like, but things have been very busy around here with much to do in the house and garden, a sociable weekend and I have also just taken on some exciting new client design projects which are going to keep me super busy in the coming weeks!  Having said that, I so love sharing my ideas and inspirations with you, and of course receiving your lovely feedback for which I am so grateful for, so time for the blog shall still be carefully prioritised!

My mind is on 'Master bedrooms' today…..particularly romantic and restful schemes.  We all know how important it is to have a beautiful, calm sanctuary to retire to at the end of the day.  A place to relax, sleep and recoup and leave behind all the work and pressures of the day.      I personally favour a restful colour pallet, to sooth and calm the senses and although I have chosen to keep things simple and have installed plantation shutters to fit our large double height windows and french doors here at home, I also love to choose sumptuous, beautiful fabrics for soft furnishings when it comes to my clients' schemes.  Crisp, fresh bed linens with a high thread count are also a very worthwhile investment which I make a priority for their luxurious feel and quality…..after all, we do spend around a third of our lives asleep!

MY OWN BEDROOM HERE AT HOME
I leave you this Monday morning with a selection of beautiful bedrooms that particularly caught my eye, for their soothing colour scheme and calm, restful look.
